About Ember + Sage

Hand-poured Nebraska-made candles designed for a clean, even, consistent burn

Because we believe every candle should burn cleanly, evenly, and consistently.

Why Ember + Sage?

At Ember + Sage, we make candles the way we believe things should still be made. With patience. With standards. And with the understanding that our name is attached to everything that leaves our hands.

Too many candles on the market today are rushed. They tunnel, waste wax, produce soot, and smell artificial. We believe a candle should do better than that.

Every Ember + Sage candle is made with a 100% soy/coconut wax blend chosen specifically for a cleaner, more even burn. We double wick our candles to promote consistent melt pools and reliable scent throw from the first light to the last. Our scents are layered and balanced, formulated in house without phthalates, parabens or sulfates and designed to fill a space without overwhelming it.

But performance does not come from wax and wicks alone. It comes from patience.

Our candles are cured slowly inside a century old bank vault, behind thick brick walls, where temperature and humidity are carefully controlled. This curing process allows the scent oils and wax to fully bond, creating a candle that burns more evenly and smells better throughout its life. Unlike many brands, we do this because it makes a difference you can literally see and smell.

The space where we work matters to us, too.

Our products are crafted inside a historic bank tucked beneath a Nebraska highway. When we restored the space, we found weathered shelving, old crates, and the original vault that had stood watch for over a hundred years. We even uncovered a table top with a note left behind by contractors in 1955:

“R.J. Koehler & V.G. Leach | May 17, 1955 | installed safe deposit boxes | feeling poor | too darn much demand.”

That note still lives in our workspace today, etched into the bench we use to mix every candle.

Vintage crates were repurposed into work benches. And the vault itself now serves a new purpose, curing candles instead of storing valuables. The space is not decorative. It reflects how we work: intentional and built to last.

I was raised in a small town where values mattered and were learned early on. Where you were only as good as your word and you did the job right the first time. Where you took pride in what you did, even when no one was watching.

That upbringing shaped how we approach our craft. Because quality, honesty, and accountability are simply how we were taught to work.

We use USA-made materials because consistency and quality matter. We pour in small batches so every candle can be checked, double checked, and finished properly. If something isn't right, it doesn't leave our hands. Our name is on every candle, and that still means something to us.

For you, it means a candle you can burn without headaches or harshness. A home that smells warm and inviting, not overpowering. A candle that performs the way it should from start to finish.

Ember + Sage is for people who value quality, patience, and things made the right way. If that sounds like you, you are in the right place.
